Maybe dating and music don’t mix? The newest Bachelor spinoff, the music themed Listen to Your Heart, premiered to a 0.7 rating in the key 18-49 demo and a little under 3 million viewers. The numbers are well below the rest of the Bachelor franchise. The episode fell short of last summer’s Bachelor in Paradise which is the smallest of the three established Bachelor shows — by about 42 percent in adults 18-49 and 30 percent in total viewers. Additionally, the numbers are down sharply from what American Idol did a year ago (1.2 key demo, 7.1 mil) in the same slot. Ouch!
Meanwhile, The Voice Knockout rounds premiere rose 1/10th of a point–from a 1.5 to a 1.6–in the key demo compared to last week. 9.8 million viewers tuned in to watch. The second season of Songland opened with a 0.9 in the demo and 4.7 million viewers. It’s up from last years premiere (0.8 in the demo, 4 million viewers).
It’s hard to compare The Voice and American Idol ratings, considering that the latter is airing clip shows this week and next. The notable comparison will come when ABC broadcasts Idol’s first “At Home” remote episode on April 26. The show will be the first competitive reality series to air using mobile tech in the era of coronavirus pandemic. Will folks tune in to watch? We’ll see.
