American Idol Ratings Down from Previous Premiere, Dominates Sunday

(ABC/Eliza Morse) LIONEL RICHIE, DOUG KIKER

The American Idol season 18 premiere on ABC dominated Sunday night ratings. The competition reality show garnered a 1.5 in the key 18-49 key demo rating, and 8.1 million viewers. For contrast, season 17 last winter opened with a 1.7 rating and 8.65 million viewers. That’s a 2/10ths of a point ratings drop. The Voice 17 last fall earned a 1.7 rating and 8.43 million viewers.

I expected the ratings to fall year to year. That the numbers hit a 1.5 is a pretty solid showing. And consider that the next highest rating is a 0.8 for American Idol’s lead in, America’s Funniest Home Videos.  More ratings at ShowBuzzDaily
