NBA All Star: Jennifer Hudson Tribute to Kobe Bryant, Chaka Khan Anthem

Jennifer Hudson Kobe Bryant Tribute

American Idol alum and former The Voice coach Jennifer Hudson stunned audiences Sunday night (Feb 16) with a touching rendition of “For All We Know” in tribute to late basketball star Kobe Bryant. The performance was part of the 2020 NBA All-Star game in Chicago.

Jennifer performed the song against a photo montage of Kobe and his 13 year old daughter Gianna played. The two both died on Jan. 25 in a tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas Calif. that also took seven other lives.

The father and daughter were buried together on Feb. 7 at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California.

Magic Johnson introduced Jennifer. He urged everyone in the audience to come together to honor both Kobe and and former NBA Commissioner David Stern, who died on Jan. 1. Rapper Common also paid tribute to the basketball legend with a spoken-word performance.

Recently eliminated The Masked Singer contestant and R&B legend, Chaka Khan performed the National Anthem to open the games. Her rendition wasn’t well received. Veteran singers generally understand that it’s a bad idea to over-embellish the National Anthem. Chaka missed the memo, I guess.
