Survivor Season 50 Finale Recap

The finale episode begins with a live studio audience in Los Angeles. Jeff says it was a fun and exciting season of Survivor. He says they turned over the decisions to the fans, which kept the contestants on their toes. Jeff calls this one of the best seasons they have ever done.

The show cuts to a recap of Survivor 50, ending on last week’s episode when Cirie was voted out. The episode continues with the Final 5 returning to camp. Rizo believes he outplayed Cirie. He also has an idol in his pocket, so he is guaranteed a spot in the Final 4. He says he feels like $2 million. Meanwhile, Aubry tries to do damage control with Tiffany, but Tiffany doesn’t want to listen to her fake sympathy. Tiffany knows Aubry lied to her face all day and wanted to vote her out, but Tiffany won immunity. Tiffany says she’s not doing the rigmarole anymore. The other four talk among themselves and accuse Tiffany of being hypocritical.

The next morning, Aubry and Jonathan wonder if there will be a fire-making challenge at the Final 4 this season. Aubry worries she could be a threat that the others want to vote out. Later, Rizo and Jonathan agree they want to go to the Final 3 with Joe. Jonathan calls Aubry’s time on the season the “underdog story of the century.” Jonathan says the plan is to vote out either Tiffany or Aubry next. It just depends on who wins immunity.

We return to the live studio audience. Jeff brings out Cirie, and she gets a standing ovation from the audience. She gets emotional as she says how grateful she is for the support she’s been getting. She is thankful for everything Survivor has given her the past 20 years. Jeff presents Cirie with an award called The Spirit of Survivor Award.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. They must go through a series of obstacles, build a ladder to get to a platform, and then complete a puzzle. The first to solve the puzzle will win immunity. The challenge begins, and Jonathan takes an early lead. He gets to the puzzle first, and Joe joins him soon afterwards. Tiffany is the third to start working on her puzzle. Eventually everyone starts working on the puzzle at the same time. Jonathan is struggling, causing him to lose his lead. Suddenly, Jonathan feels sick and vomits. He goes back to working on his puzzle, but it’s anyone’s to win now. It eventually becomes a showdown between Tiffany and Jonathan. They each only have one piece remaining, but it’s Jonathan who completes the puzzle first. Jonathan wins immunity!

We return to the live studio audience. He talks to Rick and Christian, and he mentions their bromance. They discuss Rick and Christian planting the fake idol at tribal council. Jeff also says Rick represented joy on the show, and he also discusses the coin flip for the extra million dollars from Mr. Beast.

The castaways return to camp. Tiffany hopes she can persuade Joe that Aubry is the bigger threat. She pitches her case, but Joe still believes Tiffany is a fierce competitor. He thinks both Aubry and Tiffany could win the game. Aubry knows Tiffany is trying to get votes on her, but Aubry plans to just stay calm. Meanwhile, Tiffany promises Jonathan that she will not put Jonathan in the fire-making challenge if she wins the final immunity challenge. Jonathan was eliminated in his original season at the Final 4 fire-making challenge. He says Tiffany’s offer is tempting. Jonathan calls Aubry the perfect underdog and says Tiffany is the sweetheart of the season. He admits it’s not an easy decision tonight.

We return to the studio audience. Jeff chats with Mike White via video call. He’s currently shooting the next season of The White Lotus. Jeff asked why did he come back. Mike says Season 50 is a milestone, and he couldn’t miss it. Mike also shares that he went straight to work on the newest season of The White Lotus after he was voted out. Mike also reveals that Charlie and Kamilla will be making cameos in the upcoming season of The White Lotus.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff discusses how close the challenge was. Tiffany says she knows she might be going home tonight, so she’s getting things off her chest. She’s frustrated that they’re telling her it’s a compliment that they want to vote her out. She points out that Joe won as many immunity challenges as she has, but it’s only a problem when she wins.

Rizo says he wants to give himself the best position. In order to succeed, others have to fail. Aubry says she was having conversations with everyone the entire time. She says she’s been working with the guys for the last few votes. She expects Tiffany will vote for her tonight. Jonathan says he has no hard feelings for Tiffany as a person. Tiffany says she feels spicy right now, but she’ll see how she feels when she’s on the jury tomorrow. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Rizo plays his hidden immunity idol for himself.

The first vote is for…

Aubry

Tiffany

Tiffany

Tiffany

Tiffany is the 20th person voted out and the tenth member of the jury. After Tiffany gets her torch snuffed, the show cuts back to the studio audience. Jeff brings out Tiffany and gives her kudos on an impressive game.

The next morning, the Final 4 wonder how the last elimination before the jury will be determined. Will there be a fire-making challenge or not? Jonathan also believes the guys are screwed if Aubry manages to get to the Final 3. In her confessional, Aubry knows that she won’t make it to the Final 3 if she doesn’t win immunity or a possible fire-making challenge.

It’s time for the final immunity challenge. They must drop balls down a chute, watch it spiral through the metal structure, and they must catch the ball before it drops to the ground. They will add balls as the challenge progresses. If they drop a ball, then they are out of the challenge. The last person remaining will win immunity.

Before we see the challenge begin, we return to Los Angeles. Jeff talks to Ozzy and Stephenie next. Jeff says Stephenie was the first “badass” woman of Survivor, and her name comes up in casting all the time. Many applicants say they want to be the next Stephenie. Stephenie says she came back because she wanted to prove it to herself again. She says it’s the greatest honor to be an inspiration to future players. Jeff asks Ozzy about getting voted out with an idol in his pocket, even though he had a dream the night before about getting voted out. Jeff asks how often he thinks about not playing his hidden immunity idol. Ozzy says he thinks about it all the time. Jeff presents Ozzy with a T-shirt with text that reads “Ozzy we love you” and “Please play your idol.”

We return to the start of the challenge. Everyone advances to the second stage with two balls in their metal structures. Everyone is still in the running when it’s time to add a third ball and then later a fourth ball. Jonathan is the first to drop a ball. He is followed by Rizo. It’s now a showdown between Joe and Aubry. They each add a fifth ball. Joe drops his ball. Aubry wins immunity! She breaks down crying. The other three look crestfallen. Jeff reveals that there will be a fire-making challenge tonight.

Aubry debates her choice tonight. She thinks Rizo is a threat for making it to the Final 4 two seasons in a row. She also thinks his underdog story is the most similar to hers. Aubry chats with Joe, and she lets him know that she will be bringing him to the Final 3. He gets emotional and thanks her. This will be Joe’s second time sitting in the Final 3.

Afterwards, Aubry lets Jonathan and Rizo know that they will be competing in the fire-making challenge tonight. They both lost the Final 4 fire-making challenge in their original seasons. One of them will get redemption. The other will be a two-time fire-making challenge loser. Rizo struggles with practicing making fire, and he gets emotional in his confessional. He’s so proud of his game after people underestimated him, and he’s taking it hard that he finds himself in this position again.

Jonathan, on the other hand, is having better success making fire. Joe sees how much Rizo is struggling, so he gives him some tips on how to make fire. He wants to give him a fighting chance. Rizo suddenly gets much better at making fire, which concerns Jonathan and Aubry. They fear Rizo may actually have a chance to win tonight. Before the next commercial break, Jeff toasts to the pre-jurors of Survivor 50.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff points out that all four of them have made it to the Final 4 before. Jeff then asks Aubry about winning immunity. Aubry says she remained grateful and proud of herself. Aubry says she had a lot to consider for her decision tonight. Ultimately, she has decided to bring Joe to the Final 3 and put Rizo and Jonathan in the fire-making challenge. Rizo says he tried to avoid this outcome, but he’s hopeful he can redeem himself. Jonathan says he believes whatever happens tonight is what is meant to happen. Afterwards, the fire-making challenge begins.

We return to the studio audience. Jeff brings out Rizo. He asks if he thinks he made any mistakes, and Rizo says no. He’s proud of his game. Jeff then reveals that Rizo is the final member of the jury….Even though we haven’t seen the fire-making challenge yet. Jeff looks confused, unaware he just spoiled the result. We hear groans from the audience and see the jurors’ stunned reactions before it cuts to commercial.

The show returns and Jeff jokes about the gaffe before it cuts back to the fire-making challenge. Jeff already spoiled the result, but we still watch how Jonathan wins and Rizo loses. Jonathan gets a flame first, but Rizo gets a flame too. Jonathan’s flame builds and eventually burns the rope. Jonathan will be in the Final 3. Rizo will be the final member of the jury.

Jeff talks to Rizo. Jeff says intense moments like this is what Survivor is about. Rizo thinks back on his two games. He says he played well twice, but he fell short each time. He breaks down in tears as he says he wanted to inspire his family and his Albanian community. He leaves knowing he played the best game he could. Afterwards, Jeff snuffs his torch. Rizo gives Jeff a hug before he walks out of the tribal council area.

The next morning, the Final 3 are visited by their loved ones. Visiting are Jonathan’s brother, Aubry’s mother, and Joe’s wife. They share a breakfast together. After they leave, we hear confessionals from some of the jurors. Cirie says Aubry got to the end with sheer determination. Ozzy says Aubry was able to shift the target away from her time and time again. Chrissy says Jonathan “outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted.” Rizo says Jonathan conducted blindsides and made moves when he needed them to happen. Emily says Joe was the decider for many votes. Coach says Joe claimed to play with honor and integrity, but he threw it out halfway through the game. Coach needs Joe to admit he didn’t play with honor and integrity in the second half of the game in order to get his vote.

It’s time for the final tribal council. Coach starts the discussion. He asks what core value do they posses in real life that they had to compromise in the game. Did the end justify the means? Joe says he wanted to play a straight up game, but he finally had to put his family and himself ahead of other people. He admits he lied in order to position himself better in the game. Aubry says there is a cost to relationships built. She says she didn’t let the fear of hurting people prevent her from playing the game. Jonathan says he had four years to think about how he would play again. He says he played the game depending on whom he was dealing with at the time. He wanted to match their styles.

Rick asks about secrets in the game. Jonathan admits he has been trying to get Ozzy out before Stephenie was voted out. He adds that it was his idea to vote out Ozzy and not Stephenie’s. Chrissy gives him kudos for his social game since Stephenie ended up falling on the sword for him. Aubry says Ozzy laid out his entire game to her, and she let it be known to Joe and Jonathan. She says she put the nail in his coffin. Jonathan disagrees since Jonathan was already planning to vote out Ozzy, but Aubry says she is the one who convinced Joe to vote out Ozzy. Rick asks if Aubry’s game was just giving up everyone’s secrets. Aubry says she used information as currency. Tiffany asks Joe’s thoughts on what convinced him to vote out Ozzy, and he admits the information Aubry provided was a factor.

Stephenie asks about the old school and the new era styles of Survivor gameplay. She thinks the winner should have both old school and new era styles. She thinks Jonathan is the total package and should win. Other jurors are confused and wondering where Stephenie’s question is. Stephenie thinks Aubry stayed in the middle, but Cirie gives Aubry kudos for being fluid in the game and jumping alliances.

Ozzy asks about adaptation. He wants to know a moment they adapted, and it got them to the Final 3. Joe says he adjusted to the level of players around him. He had to lie in order to not go home. Cirie says everyone had to babysit Joe before a vote. It was difficult to get him on board with plans. Chrissy says she gives Joe credit for playing his own game. Emily says every move was run by Joe, and there is power in that. Aubry says she adapted by initially wanting to align with Rick, Christian, and Emily. She had to separate from this alliance after this group was targeted by everyone else. Jonathan says he used heart-to-heart conversations to help him blindside people.

Emily asks about self-awareness. Aubry says she never made feel Stephenie comfortable, and it affected their ability to work together. Rizo wants to know if Aubry having no agency is a correct perception. Aubry says she didn’t want to overcorrect that to fly under the radar. Chrissy thinks Aubry played passively, and she wants to know if she led any moves. Aubry says she left Rick and Emily out of the plan when Christian was voted out. She also got rid of her hidden immunity idol to remove the target it put on her. Jonathan says he drove the Ozzy, Dee, and Kamilla votes. Joe says he didn’t drive any votes. He said they were collaborative.

Christian asks about their story in the game. He says they are all competing for the best story. Joe says he was proud of himself for helping Eva in his first season, but he was stuck in a corner. This time he was able to adapt and make it to the Final 3 again with his name only written down once. Joe adds he was always willing to be vulnerable.

Aubry says her story starts on Kaoh Rong. She was supposed to be the first one voted out but then became the person many says should’ve won. After less impressive showings in her next two seasons, she took time away and worked on herself. This time she gave it her all, believed in herself, and evolved as she made it to the Final 3 again. Jonathan says he worked on every aspect of the game. He says everything he did was to get to the Final 3.

It’s time for the vote. We see Ozzy and Cirie vote for Aubry and Stephenie and Chrissy vote for Jonathan. But who is the winner?

We return to Los Angeles. Jeff reads the votes.

The first vote is for…

Aubry wins Survivor 50!

Jeff chats with Aubry next. Aubry says she trusted herself more this time around. And she learned from past winners too. Jeff gives kudos to Jonathan too. He asks if he’s proud. Jonathan says he played the best game he could. He thought about the game every day for four years, and he’s proud. Jeff asks Joe about the game’s twists. Joe says it was perfect since it put all the players on their toes.

Jeff talks about the car curse from past seasons. Whoever won a car didn’t end up winning the season. In order to break the curse, they’re giving the car away after the winner has been crowned. Jeff reveals that Aubry has also won a new car.

Next is time to reveal the fan favorite prize. Sia is giving away $100,000 to the player who received the most votes from the fans. Jeff reveals that Cirie received the majority of the votes. She will go home with $100,000. The episode ends with a preview of Survivor 51.
