The Voice premiere ratings for night two only dipped 1/10th of a point, from a 1.5 in the key 18-49 demo to a 1.4. Last night 8.4 million viewers tuned in for The Voice Auditions 2. American Idol also dipped 1/10th of a point between episode 1 and episode 2 and also from a 1.5 to a 1.4 in the demo.

The veteran singing shows so far are running neck and neck in the ratings. Historically, The Voice would start off ahead of Idol, but the latter would pull ahead be the end of the season. American Idol has more live shows scheduled than The Voice and plans to air live coast to coast once again. We’ll see if history repeats itself.

Additionally, The Voice tied with This is Us in the demo, but edged out its NBC lead out in viewers (1.4/7.1 mil)

NOTE: There was heavy competition Tuesday night as CBS aired the 10h Democratic Debate which earned a 2.2 in the demo and 13 million viewers. A pretty great showing for both The Voice and This is Us, considering.

NOTE: The Voice Tuesdays won’t return to the schedule until April at the very earliest, but probably not until the live shows in May.
