The Voice’s Chevel Shepherd to Release two singles Independently in March

At long last, The Voice season 15 winner Chevel Shepherd is releasing new music. In 2018, the teen country singer from New Mexico won the crown as part of Team Kelly Clarkson. Part of her prize package included a record deal with Republic Records. And it appears the singer will NOT be releasing music on the label. Her new two original songs will be released independently on March 20.

Chevel tells the Washington Post that she has been traveling back and forth between her hometown of Farmington, New Mexico and Nashville in order to work on the project. “Everybody’s Got a Story” was written by Shane McAnally, Kacey Musgraves and Brandy Clark, while “Mama Got the Chair” is penned by Nora Collins, Nick Donley and fellow The Voice contestant Dave Fenley. The advantage of being a member of Team Kelly? The coach goes that extra mile for her artists. She found the co-writers (pals!) and got Chevel the studio time to record her upcoming EP at Starstruck Entertainment, which happens to be owned by Kelly’s father-in-law, Narvel Blackstock.

Kelly set up Chevel for success, and then gave the young singer creative freedom. “I got to create it” Chevel told the Post. “I got to pick the songs and I got to record it here in Nashville.” In between working on new music, Chevel is a senior in high school. Kelly and Chevel have formed a true partnership, as the two  collaborate on the project, mostly long distance.  “Kelly just being a part of it, it’s been a blessing,” Chevel said.

“I know y’all have been waiting for sooooo long….it’s finally here!!!” Chevel wrote on Twitter. “Two new original songs will be dropping March 20th!! Can’t wait for y’all to hear!!” Also, there hasn’t been an official announcement yet, but I expect Chevel will perform her new music on Kelly’s afternoon talk show,  The Kelly Clarkson Show shortly after the tunes drop.
