The 97th National Christmas Tree Lighting once again relied on singing show talent for its official lineup. The Voice season 15 winner Chevel Shepherd, season 14 finalist Spensha Baker and American Idol season 7 finalist Colton Dixon all performed beloved holiday classics.

Presented by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the event took place on the Ellipse in President’s Park (White House) on Dec. 5.

Last year, the administration also leaned heavily on singing show alums for talent. American Idol 2018 alum and country singer, Gabby Barrett performed, while Spensha Baker made her inaugural appearance.  LOCASH, Matthew West, Paul Cardall,  and Thompson Square also performed last year. Unless more artists are added, the lineup is even thinner this time.

The Reelz and Ovation cable channels broadcast the event on Monday Dec 9. Spensha performed “Joy to The World.” Colton appeared twice to perform “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “O Come O Come Emmanuel.” Chevel closed the event with a rendition of “Go Tell it On The Mountain.”
