The Voice 28 Recap: Playoffs 2 Live Blog with Videos
The Playoffs conclude tonight, Monday Dec 8. For the first time in several seasons, viewers will have SOME say in which artists move on to the finale. Yes, it’s a ridiculously truncated season. According to NBC.com, here’s how the voting will work:
On the December 1 episode of the Playoffs, Team Reba McEntire and Team Michael Bublé will both perform, and those Coaches will each select a finalist, leaving six remaining Artists. That night, viewers can go to NBC.com/VoiceVote or use the Voice App to cast their vote for one of those six not-selected Artists to make it through to the Live Finale.
On the December 8 episode of the Playoffs, the same thing will happen with Team Snoop and Team Niall., giving us a total of six Artists in the Live Finale on December 15, Of course, as always, voters will decide who ultimately wins The Voice, which will be revealed the next evening, December 16.
Yeah, each coach can only choose ONE act to move to the finale. Two more from both nights will advanced based on viewer votes, for a total of six finalists. Of course, talented singers WILL be left on the cutting room floor. Did I mention the season 28 format stinks? Well, it does.
YOSHIHANAA – Team Snoop – And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls
Snoop believes YOSHIHANAA can win it all, which is why he picked her for his Mic Drop contestant.
Yoshi is confident she’ll “dog walk” the song. That’s the kind of confidence needed to take on such a huge song. She modulates the song beautifully, saving the big notes for the end of the song. She’s incredible and makes it all look so easy.
Niall calls her “amazing.” Michael calls her “clutch city.” Snoop is extremely proud of his team member.
Kirbi – Team Niall – Bruises by Lewis Capaldi
A 4-chair turn, Niall calls Kirbi “the whole package.”
Kirbi’s tone is so pretty and clear. She performs an understated and lovely version of the song. She doesn’t bring out the big notes until the end. It’s a beautifully phrased performance. Her head voice is incredible.
Reba calls the performance “beautiful,” “pure” and “spiritual.” Niall notes that she doesn’t realize how good she is. He hopes she realizes it now.
Mindy Miller – Team Snoop – Not Ready to Make Nice by The Dixie Chicks
Snoop blocked Reba from turning for this country singer in the Blind Auditions. Mindy is a mom as well as a vocalist.
Country fans will just LOVE this “woke” song pick (Narrator: No they will not). Mindy is a decent country singer, but it’s hard to imagine Snoop advancing a country vocalist over the competition. Again, this format is terrible. So many great singers leave the competition before fans get to know them.
Reba loved the vocal. “I think you deserve to go to the top.” Snoop is a proud coach.
Aidan Ross – Team Niall – The Blower’s Daughter by Damien Rice
Aidan studied Engineering in college, out of fear of pursuing his real dream, music. Niall sees himself in the singer. He picked the song, which inspired him growing up in Ireland, believing Aidan can handle it.
Aidan delivers another beautiful performance. His strengths are in his careful phrasing, dynamics and incredibly beautifully tone. His falsetto is killer. He kills the high notes, while not losing his emotional connection to the song.
Snoop, Michael and Reba all believe Aidan belongs in the finals (SO DO I). Niall calls Aiden a “special talent.”
Ava Nat – Team Niall – Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine
Niall saved Ava in the Battles while putting Aidan through. Niall calls the young singer an “emotional storyteller.”
Ava shined alongside Aidan in their Battle performance. She also has the ability to deliver an emotional performance. Unfortunately, Niall can only advance one singer. Again, this format stinks.
Snoop calls her finale worthy. Reba felt Ava did a “wonderful” job. Niall is really proud of her.
Toni Lorene – Team Snoop – Bust Your Windows by Jazmine Sullivan
Toni is a veteran–a voice actor who stars in the kids animated program Coco. Snoop advises her to sing with all of her heart.
Her stage presence is pro-level. She takes the stage with confidence. She came to slay, and slay she does, with a rangy voice that delivers all of the big notes. Don’t cross Toni, OK?
Michael calls the performance “amazing.” Niall is now scared of Toni. She gave Snoop “tears of joy.”
DEK of Hearts – Team Niall – Helplessly Hoping by Crosby, Stills & Nash
The country trio, who nabbed a 4-chair turn in the Blinds, also received Niall’s Mic Drop. The singers have only been together for under 2 years–incredible considering their tight harmonies.
The group show off their sublime harmonies by opening the performance acapella. Th arrangement stays stripped back and acoustic. Again, in a longer season, this group would have stuck around for awhile. Niall has his work cut out for him tonight.
Reba LOVES the group’s harmony and believes they should win the show. Snoop would love to see them in the finals. Niall calls the group “amazing.” However, if Niall does not advance them, they at least get to perform at the Rose Bowl Parade! That’s a guaranteed TV spot.
Fans voted for DEK of Hearts to win the Mic Drop competition and sing in the Rose Bowl Parade.
Ralph Edwards – Team Snoop – A Song for You by Donny Hathaway
A 4-chair turn, Ralph’s soulful voice has wowed the coaches and viewers alike. Ralph got engaged on the show and is planning an October 2026 wedding.
It’s a perfect song choice for Ralph’s bluesy style. And what better way to impress Snoop than a soulful, lovely interpretation of a 70’s classic. Ralph’s raspy voice brings it home.
Snoop pulled out the tissues. Michael calls Ralph “The Voice.” Snoop says he brought back memories of people who are no longer here.
