The Voice 28 Playoffs: Ralph Edwards’ passionate “A Song For You” earns finals spot

The Voice Season 28 playoffs which also served as the semifinals wrapped on Monday night (Dec 8) with the final two finalists chosen by their coaches revealed. The other two voted on by America will be announced live next week. This show consisted of performances from Team Niall Horan and Team Snoop Dogg. While Snoop’s choice shocked me somewhat, the singer he chose, Ralph Edwards, peaked at the right time. (Read Our Recap)

The Fresno, California with a raspy voice recently got engaged and is getting married in October 2026. Snoop called him his “showstopping vocalist” in the preview. He thinks his confidence has grown, and compares him to Teddy Swims and Jelly Roll. Ralph wanted to show a new side to himself with a vocally challenging song like the classic, “A Song For You” by Leon Russell.

Ralph started in a more soulful manner than he had in earlier performances. As the performance goes on, his typical rasp does appear, and it’s his cleanest attempt at runs. His past Ed Sheeran cover in the Knockouts, which did have runs in it, felt less polished. This song showed nuance. He hit some big notes towards the end, and the passion was clearly there. Ralph is not Snoop’s most technical singer, but he does wear his heart on his sleeve which allows for others to connect to him.

Snoop Dogg picks Ralph Edwards to advance to The Voice 28 finals

Niall is speechless after the performance. Michael Bublé called Ralph, “The Voice.” Snoop is in tears, telling him, “You touched me, man. You brought back some memories of special people in my life that’s not here no more.” It was such a powerful performance that Snoop ended up picking him as his finalist. Niall chose Aiden Ross, who sang “The Blower’s Daughter” like a seasoned singer-songwriter, as his finalist.

Other standout performances who I could see America voting through to the finals included Team Snoop’s YOSHIHANAA’s performance of “And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going” who I personally would have chosen to advance, as she is such a polished singer, and Team Niall’s trio group DEK of Hearts who took on Girl Named Tom’s audition song, “Helplessly Hoping” and did it justice with their in-sync and impressive harmonies. Both would be worthy finalists.
