The new season kicked off with virtual auditions conducted during the summer, followed by judges round auditions in the fall. The crew auditioned singers in Austin, Los Angeles and Nashville. The surviving contestants headed to Hollywood Week, held at the Orpheum in December. It turns out a new twist awarded one lucky singer in each city a special platinum ticket, allowing them special perks during Hollywood.

The Top 24 are heading to Hawaii

After the judges whittled the field down to 59, the artists performed with a full band in front of a live audience. Check out the Top 59 spoilers HERE. After, the judges chose the Top 24. On Monday Feb 14 and Tuesday Feb 15, the semifinalists will perform in front of an audience at the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

However, while Ryan, Lionel, Luke and Katy are returning to the show, in-house mentor Bobby Bones will not. The country music DJ and personality signed an exclusive deal with another network and is moving on to his next adventure. Instead of hiring another mentor, the show will be enlisting American Idol alums to mentor the current contestants.
