American Idol 2022 1st Promo: Judges Imagine Non-Famous Lives (Video)

American Idol 20 first promo

American Idol premieres on Sunday Feb. 27 for its fifth season on ABC, and the iconic competition show’s 20th overall. It will truly be a landmark season.

The first promo for the milestone year will air during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2022 on ABC. But the network has posted the clip online.

The 90 second clip finds host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan musing about what their lives would be like if they hadn’t gotten their big breaks in show business.

“I can’t believe we’re about to begin the 20th year of American Idol,” says Lionel. Katy asks, “Y’all ready to fight our next Superstar?” Luke adds, “Gosh, I mean, we discovered so many over the years.”

Then Ryan jumps in, “Have you ever wondered where you’d be if you were never discovered?” Cut to amusing fantasies that are riffs off of highlights of the superstar host and judges careers, only pathetic!

Lionel is sculpting that hideously scary bust from the “Hello” music video, only he asks “is this the class you’re looking for?” to a student looking for his art class. Katy operates a “Firework” booth and well, it’s easy to guess how that goes wrong. Luke is behind a bar serving up “One Margarita, Two Margaritas, Three Margaritas” Shots shots!

And Ryan shouts “dim the lights…this is JEREMY GOLDSTEIN’S BAR MITZVAH!”

Back to reality, Ryan declares, “We were all given our shot. Now it’s time to give it to somebody else.” Katy exclaims, “Yeah, let’s go discover the next American Idol.”

HINT: Make sure to watch until the very end…

Looking forward to the first promo that features contestants. If fans are curious about the talent, we’ve got Top 59 spoilers at this link. But don’t spoil them here!
