Catie Turner originally posted snippets of her brilliant song “New Girl” on Tik Tok and Instagram. But the clamoring from the fans for a full version grew so loud, that the American Idol 2018 finalist uploaded a full demo to her YouTube channel.
“i have been successfully peer pressured into uploading the demo of new girl onto youtube ….. u all WORE ME DOWN ( ily )” the singer wrote on Instagram. On Twitter, she was a bit more blunt. “The bullying has worked!” she declared. It’s all said, with the love of course.
Catie began uploading bits and pieces of the song as the drama around her breakup with season 19 crooner Zach D’Onofrio unfolded. Catie met Zach on her season of American Idol in 2018. Three years later she accompanied him as he auditioned again. He made it further, but was cut. Again.
The song “New Girl” is both poignant and cutting, as she addresses the “new girl” in her exes life, basically offering her own story as a cautionary tale.
Catie’s new EP shares songs about heartbreak
Most recently, Catie dropped a new EP Heartbroken and Milking It that mines relatable topics such as self-care and relationships. The singer cautions that she wrote the songs a long time ago, and not to assume EVERY sad breakup song is about her most recent ex!
“When I got my heart broken,” Catie shared when the EP came out, “my mom told me to ‘not give them any of your energy – they’re not worth it!’ so I wrote a whole EP about the situation, because I was creative with the ways I ignored my loved ones advice. After lots of crying, trying to manifest a better boyfriend, and a whole lot of mental energy later, Heartbroken and Milking it was born! I hope u enjoy my sad lil baby”
