American Idol Second Clip Show Ratings Fall Further to A New Series Low

(ABC/Eric McCandless) LIONEL RICHIE, KATY PERRY, LUKE BRYAN

Two weeks of clip shows has resulted in American Idol ratings slipping to a new series low (down 2/10ths of a point from last week), losing the Sunday demo win to 60 minutes. Not even the first ever result delivered remotely by Ryan Seacrest in his living room could save the show this week.

American Idol garnered a 0.8 rating in the key 18-49 demo, with a 5.5 million average overall audience for ABC. Meanwhile, over at CBS, 60 minutes led with a 0.9 rating in the key demo and and 9.6 million overall viewers.

Next Sunday, American Idol will return with a coast to coast Top 20 performance show, that will include results. ABC plans to move forward with the show remotely, with 25 locations, including host Ryan Seacrest, mentor Bobby Bones and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan doing their thing from the comfort of their living rooms.

Will viewers tune in to see the first competition reality show produced amid coronavirus concerns, or has American Idol completely lost its momentum at this point? The ratings will likely rise next week. The question is, by how much.
