It’s become a tradition. ABC’s Live with Kelly & Ryan has held a fan voted contest every year during the ABC era to choose an American Idol Top 10 contestant to perform on the show. Back in the FOX days, each of the Top 10 did a New York media tour after being eliminated and would make a stop at Live.
But these days, only the Top 2 contestants fly, via private jet, to New York City the morning after the finale to perform on Live and make other media stops such as on Good Morning America.
However, if you are season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda and hate flying, you exit the plane before it takes off and skip the media tour altogether! (Not to make light of Alejandro’s struggle with anxiety. Recently he shared how, despite his anxiety, he flew on a plane to make a gig. The struggle is real, and good for him facing his fears!)
The contest works like this:
From Monday, May 23rd, at 9:00 a.m. until Tuesday, May 24th, at 9:00 a.m. EDT, viewers can vote via an online poll to select one finalist to take center stage on Live. Further details and the link to the online poll will be available on the Live website, KellyandRyan.com.
