The Voice teases “The Double Chair” for 2024 season!
The Voice season 24 hasn’t even started filming at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, yet the show is teasing the 2024 cast. In a short clip posted to Instagram, The Voice announced that the “new 2024 lineup is coming” along with something called “the double chair.”
In the clip, two chairs are adjoined side by side with “WE Want You” spelled out across the bottom. What could this mean?
UPDATE: The NBC site indicates that the show will add one “double chair” to the coaches panel. So maybe a married couple? It sounds similar to how The Masked Singer sometimes features masks that include more than one person competing together. So maybe five coaches including one double chair? It appears that other countries have used the “double chair” and it’s typically four chairs, with one that includes a coaching duo.

How would NBC cast a “double chair”? Could it be a country music duo? A married couple? Artists who are members of a group?
Also consider how NBC cut back the 2023 Spring cycle. It only aired 17 competition episodes that featured only three live shows. Live voting only took place over two weeks. Tuesday shows were cut back considerably.
What would a new The Voice format look like?
Remember that NBC initially cancelled The Voice spring cycle. But when its replacement, American Song Contestant in 2022, didn’t catch on with fans, it brought back The Voice for Spring 2023, but in a truncated form. So perhaps NBC is cooking up a new format for Spring that takes advantage of a shorter time frame, akin to America’s Got Talent’s winter spinoff, which has employed various formats over the last few seasons.
What do you think “The Double Chair” means? It’s also pretty early for NBC to discuss the Spring season. Will they announce the cast in July when networks typically make announcements regarding the upcoming season? The Voice spring cycle Blind Auditions usually film in October.
In the meantime, The Voice season 24 will air in the Fall on Mondays and Tuesdays with John Legend, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire as coaches. Carson Daly returns as host. It will be the first The Voice season ever without Blake Shelton sitting in a big red chair. The country singer is the last veteran to leave the show. And the way he tells it, he’s not coming back!
