Kelly Clarkson will Release TWO songs “Me” and “Mine April 14

Ahead of the release of her new studio album Chemistry, and her 10 day summer Las Vegas residency, Kelly Clarkson will release TWO songs on April 14.

The OG American Idol winner has been teasing the songs on her social media accounts. Called the “divorce album” by fans, the two songs “Me” and “Mine” are both about her painful breakup with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

“Me” is a declaration of independence

In the song “Me,” a defiant declaration of independence, The Voice coach hints that her former partner felt threatened by her success:

“I don’t need somebody to hold me, don’t need somebody to love me, don’t need somebody to pick these pieces up, I put together my broken, let go of the pain I’ve been holdin’, don’t need to need somebody, when I got me”

“Cause I don’t need somebody to scold me, don’t need somebody that hurts me, don’t need somebody who feels weak standing next to me, I put together my broken, let go of the pain I’ve been holdin’, don’t need to need somebody, when I got me.” Kelly hits a mindblowing high note on the last “me.”

“Mine” is a song about payback and karma

“Mine” is about Karma. The Kelly Clarkson Show host hopes that whomever her former partner ends up with breaks his heart like “you did mine.”

“someone’s gonna show you how a heart can be used, like you did mine.”

“I hope one day someone will take your heart and hold it tight, make you feel like you’re invincible deep inside and right when you think that it’s perfect they cross a line, and steal your shine, like you did mine.”

Kelly heads to Vegas this summer

The song comes from Kelly’s forthcoming album Chemistry. “I was trying to find a word — it might be one of the songs on the album — that really described the whole thing. I didn’t want everybody to think I was just coming out with some ‘I’m angry’ or ‘I’m sad,’ just those two emotions,” Kelly said in a video announcement clip posted to social media. “This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship.” After 7 years of marriage, Kelly separated from her husband, Brandon Blackstock. In the aftermath, the two battled over money and property before the divorce became final in 2021.

Kelly is set to play a 10 day Las Vegas residency this summer, which kicks off on July 28. In a recent radio interview with Ryan Seacrest, Kelly promised that she’ll be singing all the fan-favorite hits. “I’m gonna totally play the songs that people want obviously,” she told Ryan. “I haven’t performed them in years. I’m excited about that, all the hits but also sprinkling the new stuff throughout those 10 dates and really just making it more–even the songs that, you know–maybe some of the stuff behind the songs. It’s just more of a low-key rock and roll vibe. It’s definitely not like your normal Las Vegas show.”
