Kelly Clarkson reveals name of upcoming album
A few days ago, Kelly Clarkson teased her fans with a few cryptic emojis that most folks assumed was about her hotly anticipated next album.
She didn’t keep her fans waiting long, when she revealed the name of the album and a few more details in a new video posted to social media.
“I’ve been working on this project for close to three years now. I wasn’t sure I was going to release it, but I am. The album is called Chemistry,” the American Idol OG winner shared.

“I was trying to find a word — it might be one of the songs on the album — that really described the whole thing. I didn’t want everybody to think I was just coming out with some ‘I’m angry’ or ‘I’m sad,’ just those two emotions. This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship.” After 7 years of marriage, Kelly separated from her husband, Brandon Blackstock. In the aftermath, the two battled over money and property before the divorce became final in 2021.
“That whole relationship shouldn’t be brought down to one thing,” The Kelly Clarkson Show host added. “There’s the good, the bad and the ugly kind of thing going on. Chemistry can be a really amazing, sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. So that’s why I named it Chemistry, I thought it was a perfect title to describe the entire album. That is coming out soon. And also music is coming out even sooner. I’m very excited about it. When I say soon, I mean really soon. I’m nervous but I’m excited about putting it out.”

It took Kelly “a minute” to be able to release the album
Earlier this year, Kelly posted an album update for her fans. She shared that it took her “a minute…to be able to release this album.” Referring to her 2020 separation and subsequent divorce. Kelly admits “I just had to be over it, through it, all around it. I had to get past it in order to talk about it.” She added, “Because I know people want to ask me about the album and songs…I needed a minute.”
But in the end, she’s glad she waited. “One of the last songs written for the album might be one of the singles that we come up with first.” Waiting to cycle through all the emotions around her divorce means the songs represent “a great arc of a whole relationship.” She promises that the tracks are “not all sad or mad.” However, “that’s in there too!”
Kelly is set to perform on the 2023 IHeart Music Awards airing on FOX Monday March 27. She’ll be competing with herself as The Voice season 23 Battle Rounds begin at the same time over on NBC. Kelly returned to The Voice after taking a cycle off.
