Right now, a little bit of confusion exists around the status of Kelly Clarkson’s divorce. But apparently she IS officially divorced from Brandon Blackstock.
US Magazine reported earlier today that a judge signed off on the pair’s single status last month. Their “marital or domestic partnership status” will end on January 7, 2022, they reported.
BUT NOT SO FAST!
A clerical error confused the issue
However, TMZ reports that the “January, 7, 2022” date is a clerical error, and that the judge made the divorce official nearly two months ago.
“Kelly Clarkson has been a single woman for nearly 2 months,” TMZ reports, “but a clerical error has thrown everyone off the scent.”
According to TMZ, Brandon Blackstock’s lawyer, Samantha Spector, filed legal docs which lays out what has been decided so far in the divorce and what issues remain. (View the doc at TMZ) The doc also notes that the American Idol OG winner’s original name has been restored: Kelly Brianne Clarkson.
Kelly and Brandon divorced since August
A notation in the docs says that the actual divorce will become final on 1-7-2022. However, TMZ has learned that the clerk made the notation in error.”In fact, Kelly and Brandon have been divorced since August 3. We’re told the clerk is correcting the mistake,” reports TMZ.
Previously, the judge upheld the prenup, which Brandon had contested. Property issues are still being sorted out. There is a huge disparity between the couple’s income. The Voice coach and talk show host earns $1.9 million a month. Brandon makes $10k a month.
The judge has awarded Kelly primary custody of their two children on a temporary basis. Additionally, Brandon is living at the former couple’s ranch in Montana and Kelly is with their children in Los Angeles. Because the judge upheld the prenup, Kelly owns the ranch outright, and she wants him out.
