Francisco Martin’s “Swollen” mystery ex is…fellow American Idol finalist Julia Gargano
It appears that the ex-girlfriend is fellow American Idol 18 finalist, Julia Gargano. Francisco presents the duet version of the song like a big reveal. The music video for the duet version is essentially the same as the solo clip, but now viewers see the mysterious ex’s face from the other side, and in scenes that feature Julia’s soulful alto.
In the song, Francisco and his girlfriend split after never seemingly being on the same page. The video depicts the couple rarely facing each other.When they are touching, at least one has their back to the viewer. The song and visuals create a feeling of bittersweet longing and disconnect.
With the addition of Julia’s visuals and vocals, listeners get both sides of the emotional story. The aching melody and song narrative is JUST CRYING OUT for the perfect television sync.
After leaving American Idol earlier this year, both Julia and Francisco signed record deals with 19Records, the distribution and recording arm of American Idol producer, 19 Entertainment.
