On his new single, the driving “hate you to love myself,” the LA-based singer-songwriter and producer Francisco Martin is found coming to terms with some destructive past behavior.
It’s the latest single from the American Idol alum’s new EP titled Manic, out August 26th via 19 Recordings. “I was a terrible person to be around during 2021,” Francisco admits. “I was constantly on the brink of anger and anxiety and fell a little too off the deep end. In turn, I treated the people I love and care most about badly. This is the ‘oldest’ song on the EP, and it went through a ton of different production changes before I finally got to the finished version. My friend Jon Hume helped me produce it, and even though the subject matter can be heavy at times, I hope you can still enjoy the song in its entirety.”

The singer-songwriter announced the Manic EP with the anthemic “Nobody Listens To Me!.” He followed the single up in May with the upbeat “KISSING ON A BALCONY.” Francisco explains, “This song is about crazy f—— love, when you feel infatuated with someone you barely know.” In May, the singer performed “Kissing on a Balcony” live at the Miss Universe Philippines Pageant in Manila.
In 2021, Francisco released his first EP Beautiful Ramblings of a Restless Mind featuring the singles “Swollen” featuring fellow season 20 singer Julia Gargano and “Wild Girl.” His most recent singles are “Bittersweet” and “If You Need Me.”
After Francisco finished American Idol season 18 in the Top 5, the show’s record label 19 Recordings signed him to a record deal. Season 18 took place in 202o amid COVID-19 lockdowns. Francisco and his fellow Idols recorded performances at home with iPhones, never stepping foot on a live stage.
