Francisco Martin is a very sad bunny in the new music video for his latest single “Bittersweet.”
When the American Idol 2020 alum released the song, he wrote on Instagram. “This song is a special one for me. It’s about loving the good parts of a relationship and hating the bad parts,” Francisco continued. “Sometimes, however, you let the bad parts get the best of you. You know it’s not healthy for either of you to stay in that relationship, but you still can’t help but love them with every fiber of your being…”
Francisco penned “Bittersweet” in Nashville along with Andrew Stoelzing and Nate Miles. He and Miles co-produced the song and recorded it in Nashville and Los Angeles.
The video follows a love affair that eventually ends. The twist? The characters are all costumed in bunny suits!
“What If I’m a sad bunny?”
The singer came up with concept, when he and his co-producer were figuring out production. While listening to the song afterward, Francisco began hopping to the beat “like a bunny” and he “started dancing to it a little bit.” In another Instagram post, Francisco explains, “It had this little cool groove to it. So then I started imagining myself as a bunny, and then I was like ‘What if I’m a sad bunny?'”
In another post, Francisco shares: “i feel like my own expectations of others taint the way i perceive a beautiful moment. it’s the disappointment i hate most when i learn that it’s all just wishful thinking. that I’m not in full control of everything and that some relationships are forever and some are there for a brief moment in time. i feel guilty sharing a beautiful moment with someone while already thinking about the next day and how it will pan out. instead of cherishing the happy parts, i tend to latch on to negative hypotheticals and irrational thoughts. i guess that’s what “bittersweet” is about.”
