ABC just released American Idol key art for season 21. The 2023 edition of the veteran singing show premieres on Sunday February 19 with the same cast, including host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
Over the fall, American Idol judges auditioned hopefuls in Las Vegas first, which accounts for this year’s “sing city” theme. Next, the gang travelled to New Orleans and then wrapped it all up in Nashville.
The Hollywood Round took place in December, ending with a Top 55 performing a Showstopper Round live in front of an audience and the judges at the Los Angeles Theater for a spot in the Top 24.
During the American Music Awards in early December, American Idol promoted a Platinum Ticket contest which allowed fans to vote for their favorite out of three contestants. The show announced the winner, Elijah McCormick, on their socials a few weeks later.
Rumor has it that American Idol will film the Top 24 round at the Disney Aulani Resort in Kapolei, Hawaii for a second season in a row. The round will take place in February. We already have a bunch of spoilers from the The Top 55, including a contestant list and song spoilers HERE.
American Idol celebrates 21 seasons
American Idol also released a new promo featuring hopeful fans are about to meet very soon! “We’re celebrating 21 years of making dreams come true,” Lionel announces at the beginning of the clip. “You are the little engine that could!” Katy tells one tearful auditioner. “Never give up on her dream,” she tells another. “You’ve got the magic in you.”
Last month, American Idol dropped a Las Vegas themed promo that featured the judges in a casino playing the slots, with the winning pull releasing a shower of Golden Tickets. “Who will win big and be the next American Idol?” Ryan intones in voice over. Katy grabs a ticket as Ryan reminds viewers that American Idol 2023 begins Sunday February 19 on ABC.
