American Idol debuted its newest promo for upcoming season 21 during New Year’s Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest on Saturday night.
In it, judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest try their luck in Las Vegas. The gold toned clip has the quartet enter a casino dubbed “Sin City.” A pair of golden dice shoot across the room and into a martini glass. A bottle of champagne is popped. And then the four approach a slot machine.
Katy pulls the lever and after it spins, photos of the three judges turn up. The three yell out. But then the real prize shoots out of the machine. NO NOT MONEY! It’s a shower of Golden Tickets. So many they rain down on the crew. “Who will win big and be the next American Idol?” Ryan says in voice over. Katy grabs a ticket as Ryan reminds viewers that American Idol 2023 begins Sunday February 19 on ABC.
American Idol has already determined their Top 24!
After months of virtual auditions and casting calls, the American Idol 2023 judges auditions kicked off in Las Vegas in September. The gang headed to New Orleans in October (Ryan missed at least part of the auditions due to COVID). And the show ended the round in Nashville in November.
Hollywood Week took place in early December in Los Angeles. After several days of competition, which included the Genre and Duets challenges, the Top 55 performed on December 11 in front of a live audience for the Showcase Round, which determines the Top 24.
Reportedly, the Top 24, will once again head to the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii from February 8 to February 14 to compete for a spot in the next round. Five days later, on February 19, American Idol premieres on ABC.
Spoilers from the Showcase Round, which include names of the contestants who made the cut (FAMILIAR FACES!) and their song selections can be found AT THIS LINK. Don’t click if you want to retain an air of mystery once the show stars!
