There were hints that the Hollywood Rounds would have a few twists on American Idol season 18. Now, we know what’s different. Judge Katy Perry says in a new promo clip, “Everything”
However, what WON’T be different are the usual meltdowns, catfights and flameouts that American Idol Hollywood Week brings season after season. Check out the new clip at People Magazine. The website also reveals full details on how the round will proceed.
What to expect from Hollywood Week:
- Instead of “Lines of 10” Hollywood Week kicks off with a “genre challenge” This new twist will allow contestants to choose their preferred music style (i.e. pop, country or R&B) and perform a song in the genre of their choice. The point is to allow contestants to display their artistry to Idol fans.
- The group round will be replaced by DUETS Contestants will pair up with an opponent, select a song, create an arrangement and perform a track of their choice. This new challenge will allow contestants to test their artistry by selecting a single partner, instead of a group of friends. Contestants will pick their partners. It gives each singer an opportunity to strategize and showcase their vocals
- The Third Round Stays the Same – SOLOS The week’s third round will remain the same and showcase the contestants on their own with solo performances. Contestants will have the opportunity to perform with a full band.
Additionally, American Idol has released new key art for the round. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, mentor Bobby Bones and host Ryan Seacrest are featured with the tagline “Be Somebody’s Idol.”
