America’s Got Talent 2025: Mel B Connects with Singer Charity Lockhart and gives her the Golden Buzzer
America’s Got Talent milestone 20th season continued on Tuesday night for a 3rd week of auditions. There has been a good variety of acts, but as always singers are some of the acts that have wowed the judges. Each judge gets 2 golden buzzers this season and Mel B used her 2nd one on Tuesday night on a singer that she connected to, 49 year old Charity Lockhart.
Charity is the mom of two adult children. When they were younger, they lived in a car after a divorce. She sang at bars to make money and eventually competed in a vocal competition and won, which allowed the family to rent their first apartment. For Charity, the ultimate dream is to “keep singing” and to “collect a Grammy along the way.”
She began the audition with an a capella rendition of “Over The Rainbow” which showed off her soulful voice and ability to hit some impressive notes. But she oversings somewhat and her rendition lacked excitement. Simon Cowell stopped her and said, “it just wasn’t working for me.” He liked her, so he gave her a second chance. It’s one of those situations that feels staged. She then broke out “Golden Slumbers” by The Beatles, this time accompanied by a piano and the mic even has some reverb. The beginning is beautiful with gorgeous phrasing. The song is perfect for her voice, and showed more soul than the first song. She hit some challenging notes, but I’m not sure some of the riffs and high notes suited the song. Either way, a very good vocal. She is a pro.
“This is what a great audition is all about”

All four of the judges stood as the crowd applauded. Simon said, “This is what a great audition is all about”. He added that people will talk about it afterward. Mel B got on her feet to declare, “Every once in a while you see someone, and you connect with them.” She continued, “I think you are amazing and I want to give you this right now” before hitting her Golden Buzzer. Charity is the second singer this season to receive a Golden Buzzer. The first was Jourdan Blue. Mel B joins the singer on stage as she takes in the moment. Afterward, she celebrated off stage with her family.
America’s Got Talent: Benjamin Hightower Unexpected Cover Charms
Charity gave a very solid audition, but there were a few others that I really enjoyed. Urban Theory was possibly the best dance crew we have seen this season, so I was shocked that Simon had to fight for them. Boston Dynamics gave a unique audition with dancing robots, and I look forward to seeing what they bring next. Finally, the closer of the night, Leo High School Choir was impactful. They may have not been the best vocal choir, but they put a lot of feeling into their audition.
