Our very own source attended the American Idol 2019 Top 14 performances taping on Friday (April 12) and nabbed song spoilers for us. CONTESTANT AND SONG CHOICES ARE LISTED IN PERFORMANCE ORDER

The taped episode airs on Sunday April 14 at 8 pm on ABC when American Idol fans will vote for the first time. On Monday (April 15), after the votes are tabulated, the Top 10 will be revealed in the season’s first LIVE show. Viewers will choose seven of the Top 10. The judges–Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan will choose the remaining three.

Just like like season, the Top 14 theme is “This is Me.”

Song Spoilers in Performance Order:

  1. Laine Hardy – That’s Alright Mama by Elvis Presley with guitar
  2. Evelyn Cormier – The Middle by Jimmy Eats World
  3. Alyssa Raghu – She Used to Be Mine by Sara Bareilles
  4. Eddie Island – Benny and  the Jets by Elton John
  5. Riley Thompson – Suds in a Bucket by Sara Evans
  6. Wade Cota – Trouble by Ray LaMontagne with guitar
  7. Dimitrius Graham – Perfect by Ed Sheeran (reworked arrangement)
  8. Madison Vandenburg – Fallin’ by Alicia Keys (the judges went nuts over this)
  9. Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon – We All Fall in Love Sometimes by Elton John on piano (Judges raved afterward.  Jeremiah mentioned attending his sisters wedding where he reconnected with his parents.)
  10. Uche – Finesse by Bruno Mars (Crowd ate it up! He performed a dance break that impressed the judges)
  11. Alejandro Aranda – One Dance by Drake – Performed “electronic style” – Per @IdolSpoilers it was performed with a keyboard and a DJ set.
  12. Ashley Hess – Fix You by Coldplay on piano – (mentions that she’s dating James IV from season 15 Top 24).
  13. Laci Kaye Booth – I Miss You by Blink 182 (Katy said she was “the Idol”)
  14. Walker Burroughs – Climb Every Mountain from Sound of Music

What do you think of the song choices? Here are a few of my thoughts.

  • Laci Kaye Booth follows up her countrified version of a Cheap Trick cover with a Blink 182 song. Very interesting!
  • Evelyn Cormier chooses an indie rock song by a group popular in the aughts. The choice is a risk, considering that Idol fans may not know the song (ETA: Corrected title and “The Middle” was a HUGE hit in the aughts. Still it is a song most familiar to the 30 and under crowd).
  • Eddie Island choosing Benny and the Jets could be another opportunity to ham it up. That would not be good.
  • Speaking of risks–Walker Burroughs chooses a beloved and massive classic from Sound of Music. Is he up to the challenge?
  • Alyssa Raghu is back to her familiar singer songwriter vibe. It is definitely time to remind America why they loved her.
  • I hear the Dimitrius Graham arrangement of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” is well…perfect.
  • When I receive info on Alejandro Aranda’s song, I’ll update the post. The arrangement sounds intriguing.
  • Laine Hardy, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Madison Vandenburg, Uche, Wade Cota and Ashley Hess sticks to what works for them this week. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. But I always look forward to some risk-taking.
