Adam Lambert “Holding Out for a Hero” Video Channels the 80s

Adam Lambert Holding Out for a Hero Music Video

Adam Lambert has released the music video for his Bonnie Tyler cover, “Holding Out For a Hero.”

“I loved putting my glam-rock spin on Holding Out For A Hero,” the American Idol alum and Queen frontman writes on Instagram. “It’s available to stream everywhere now!”

Jim Steinman penned the song, originally from the 80s movie musical Footloose. Bonnie herself loved the cover, writing on her Twitter account, “Blown away by this @adamlambert. Fantastic version.

The clip, directed by Jordan Rossi, features Adam wearing a variety of outfits, including smart dark suit and wrap around sunglasses, a long white vest, track pants and black leather gloves, and a blue jacket and pants set. A futuristic band wearing silver helmets over their heads backs him. The feeling is decidedly 80s.

Eventually, one by one, the band tosses their helmets to reveal their faces. The diverse group plays on like they’re finally free. Adam’s final outfit is a sparkly blue kilt and black leather jacket complimented by elaborate eye makeup.

Known for re-imagining songs from American Idol to his stirring viral hit with Cher’s “Believe,” Adam Lambert  brings fans High Drama, a diverse collection of covers with a twist, held together by Adam’s once-in-a-generation voice and trademark flair. The album, which includes “Holding on for a Hero” drops February 24.

As far as choosing to record a covers album now, Adam shared with Yahoo, “I do think that as a musician, as an artist, I’ve evolved a bit. I can look at a song and know exactly what I want to do with it now. And I feel more confident in those ideas.”

Earlier this month, Adam released Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” and has been performing it in various venues including The Voice 2022 finale. The album’s first release “Mad About the Boy” is out now.
