Adam Lambert drops “Glam Rock Version” of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero”

Adam Lambert has released a third song from his album of covers titled High Drama. Check out a “glam-rock version” as he described his rendition to Yahoo music, of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero.” The song is originally from the 80s movie musical Footloose and was penned by Jim Steinman. “Get ready,” is how Adam previewed the song.

While Tyler’s version features her raspy vocals against a dance beat, Adam’s take is darker, more insistent and dramatic. One could imagine him, in a New York City club circa 1974, wearing sky high platform heeled boots, delivering a fierce performance.

As far as choosing to record a covers album now, Adam shared with Yahoo, “I do think that as a musician, as an artist, I’ve evolved a bit. I can look at a song and know exactly what I want to do with it now. And I feel more confident in those ideas.”

“It’s a fun challenge to figure out a way of doing a 180 with a song,” he explained in a press statement. “This album is a foray into my world. Over the past decade, I’ve explored a few different areas and sounds and energies, and I feel like part of this new chapter in my career is me being really clear on who I am, and what I am, and what I’m not. I think that’s all coming out in these tracks.”

Earlier this month, Adam released Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” and has been performing it in various venues including The Voice 2022 finale. The album’s first release “Mad About the Boy” is out now.

Known for re-imagining songs from American Idol to his stirring viral hit with Cher’s “Believe,” Adam Lambert – the Grammy-nominated pop singer, LGBTQ trailblazer and Queen frontman – brings fans High Drama, a diverse collection of covers with a twist, held together by Adam’s once-in-a-generation voice and trademark flair.

The set is available to pre-order NOW on your favorite platform. The set is due out on February 24.
