HDD – Album Sales Prediction : Apr 16-22

That was a pretty potent special Lionel had on CBS. With 54.98% of reports in, Lionel Richie is topping the HDD chart by a pretty impressive margin for the second week. You can bet that there are a lot of other 80s artists dusting off their catalog and phoning every genre flipping artist in their manager’s rolodex. In order to extend his time at the top of the album charts, Lionel is going to have to fend off a debuting Jason Mraz who is expected to clear about the same amount as “Tuskegee”. We’ll have to wait until the dust settles to call the winner, but Mraz is currently in 3rd. With 65K in sales reported already, “Tuskegee” will go Gold this week. It will be the second best selling album released in 2012 so far (Now 41 is top).

Debuting 2nd highest this week will likely be Train. They’ve had a lot of luck on radio lately, but so far, it’s only good enough for 6th on the HDD chart. Look for them to finish with about 65-70K in sales. They are a band that tends to stick around the chart though. Some artists start big and fade fast, while others slow burn for a long time.

As always, Adele is right in the thick of things and her “21” is currently 2nd. Nicki is 4th and Goyte 5th. XF’s 1D’s “Up All Night” is keeping the sales up at 7th, Future Pluto (my mystery group of the week) is debuting at 8th, Luke Bryan is a selling machine at 9th and Rascal Flatts rounds out the top 10.

The first solo Idol appears at 26th. Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” continues to see strong sales and she also appears on Jason Aldean’s Energizer Bunny album, “My Kinda Party”. The album has been out since Nov of 2010 and just keeps going and going and going. Scotty McCreery’s “Clear as Day” is 30th and Jennifer Hudson sings the title track on “Think Like a Man” at 17. Blake represents The Voice at 24th.
