The Voice 25 Blind Audition: Val T. Webb Turns 4 Chairs with a Spectacular Performance

The Voice 25 Blind Auditions come to an end Tuesday (March 12). In this new preview clip from NBC, Val T Webb performs Deborah Cox’s “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here” and elicits a 4-chair turn.

Considering each coach, including John Legend, Reba McEntire, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay have only ONE spot remaining on their respective teams, Val will likely open the hour long episode.

The 43 year old mother performed a jazzy version of the classic. It’s reminiscent of singers like Anita Baker who brought a cool jazz flavor to their performances. But vocally, the artist brought it up a notch when she ably navigated a dramatic key change and all the high notes.

“I’m just so happy for you,” said John to the Texas native. “I just see the joy on your face, and a little relief too, I think.” John felt that Val handled her audition with “poise and grace.” He also reminded her that he was the first coach to turn for her. He also guessed that Val, who revealed she’s a worship director, sings in church.

Additionally, Val sings background vocals for artists “such as yourselves.” It’s a bit of her background that will surely be covered in the singer’s video package. John pitched that he grew up singing gospel and soul music.

Val would be a “backup singer no more,” Dan + Shay predicted

Shay offered that he also grew up singing gospel. “I think we can all agree that this is really special,” he said about her audition. He called her a “star” and promised she would be a “backup singer no more.” Dan described her performance as one of the best they’d ever seen and assured Val she’d do well no matter which team she picked.

Chance added his religious bonafides, saying that he runs a vacation Bible school in Chicago and works with a youth choir. “Your breath control is ridiculous,” Chance said, complimenting her control over her higher register. “You made it your own song,” he added.

When Reba realized there was very little to critique about Val’s singing, that’s when she hit the button, she said. “You look like a beautiful woman who loves to sing for the Lord as I do,” said Reba.

Val explained that the reason she auditioned for The Voice is because of her son, who joined her on stage. He joked that he didn’t get the singing talent gene.

Who will Val pick as her coach? Tune into The Voice on NBC, Tuesday March 12 at 9 pm ET/PT. The coaches will round out their Top 40 teams.
