Will The Voice 22 Be Super-Sized to a Top 56? (Spoiler)

The Voice season 22 Blake Shelton Gwen Stefani Camila Cabello John Legend

It appears that the new season of The Voice will feature a Top 56 instead of a Top 48.

It’s been an entire year since the last The Voice season in fall 2021. NBC opted to replace the veteran talent show with the American Song Contest last spring. (ACS, co-hosted by Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg garnered lower ratings than Spring cycles of The Voice did in seasons past. American Idol ratings bested it every Monday. There are indications The Voice may go back to a two cycle season in 2023.)

The new info comes from the intrepid folks over at IdolForums, who do a good job of vetting spoilers before making them public. However, NBC has NOT confirmed a Top 56 yet.

It makes sense for NBC to “super-size” the season. Without airing a Spring season, producers probably had a ton of talent in the pipeline. But, with The Voice premiering on Monday September 19 and likely ending mid-December, how would the show squeeze in all those extra singers? Many more montages probably!

The taping schedule has been seating for Battle and Knockout rounds, so there does not seem to be a format change coming. According to the IDF spoiler, the Battle Rounds will feature 36 contestants instead of 32.  The Knockout rounds are scheduled to tape on August 9. The Television Critics Association tour sessions for NBC are coming soon, at which time, season 22 details  are likely to be confirmed.

The Voice 22 Promo Camila receives an anonymous “message”

In the meantime, enjoy this fun first The Voice season 22 promo. Kelly Clarkson is spending the summer with her kiddos and isn’t on the coaches panel. Newbie Camila Cabello will join veterans Blake Shelton and John Legend, while Blake’s wifey Gwen Stefani returns.

In the clip, Camila receives a gift that’s more like a warning. It’s a beautiful welcome display alongside a letter that reads, “You are going to lose so bad!”

“Who would send that?” Gwen asks Camila.

“I can’t believe you got that anonymous letter,” Blake says, unconvincingly.

“Check out this weird letter I just got: ‘You should never have come back,'” John adds, revealing his own letter made with cut out letters from magazines.

But then host Carson Daly blows Blake’s cover when he arrives with an arm full of cut magazines and scissors. “Hey, Blake, can you please stop crafting in my dressing room?”

“Busted,” says Camila.
