The Amazing Race Week 7 Recap

A new episode of The Amazing Race airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

This leg will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay. Juan & Shane and Ricky & Cesar are the first teams to depart. They read their clue and learn they must make their way to Puerto Logístico Punta de Sayago. Amber & Vinny and Rod & Leticia depart in the second group.

Ricky & Cesar are the first to arrive at the Roadblock. One team member must weld two pieces of metal together. If the pieces are still together after being hit with a hammer, then they will get their next clue. Cesar chooses to do the Roadblock. Juan & Shane arrive shortly afterwards. Juan got food poisoning the night before, so he doesn’t feel well today. Shane says he will step up for the tasks today, so Shane does the Roadblock.

Angie & Danny, Yvonne & Melissa, and Sunny & Bizzy depart in group three. Angie & Danny were working with Amber & Vinny and Rod & Leticia in the prior leg, but they plan to run their own race today. Meanwhile, Amber & Vinny and Rod & Leticia arrive at the Roadblock. Vinny and Rod choose to do the Roadblock. Amber’s dad is a welder, so she and Leticia joke that this will be a test for Vinny to win her father’s approval.

Yvonne & Melissa and Sunny & Bizzy are lost. Angie & Danny arrive at the Roadblock before they do. Danny does the Roadblock. Cesar and Shane have been struggling with the task. Their pieces of metals keep getting smashed by the hammer and they must try again. Their struggles allow Vinny and Rod to surpass them. Vinny completes the Roadblock first, and he’s followed by Rod. Both teams can now proceed to Ciudad Vieja to find their next clue.

Getting lost

Cesar completes the Roadblock on his third attempt and Shane completes it on his fourth attempt. After they depart, Yvonne & Melissa and Sunny & Bizzy arrive at the Roadblock. Yvonne and Sunny choose to do the Roadblock.

Amber & Vinny arrive at Ciudad Vieja and learn they have a Detour to complete: Candombe or Murga. The former requires teams to perform a candombe drum routine and the latter requires teams to sing a murga song. While getting directions, Amber & Vinny get into an argument. Amber says Vinny is being too controlling and won’t listen to her, and Vinny counters that he speaks Spanish and she doesn’t. Meanwhile, Danny completes the Roadblock after his second attempt. Yvonne and Sunny fail their first attempts. However, they both pass shortly afterwards.

Juan & Shane got lost, which allowed Angie & Danny to reach Ciudad Vieja shortly before them. Rod & Leticia got lost too, and they are the fifth to arrive at Ciudad Vieja. Danny notes how their navigational skills are strong since they’re passing teams in front of them. Meanwhile, Amber & Vinny get frustrated with each other as they try to find the Detour.

Amber & Vinny arrive at the Candombe Detour. As they get started, Ricky & Cesar walk past them as they make their way to the Murga Detour. Amber & Vinny are learning the drum routine while Ricky & Cesar learn to sing the song. Meanwhile, Sunny & Bizzy are lost again. They arrived at plaza, but it’s not where they’re supposed to be. Yvonne & Melissa find the clue box and then make their way to the Murga Detour. Sunny & Bizzy continue to fall further behind as they end up driving to a port.

Which team will claim first place?

Angie & Danny, Juan & Shane, and Rod & Leticia begin the Candombe Detour as Ricky & Cesar perform the song for the first time. Ricky & Cesar fail and must try again. Amber & Vinny also fail the drum routine on their first attempt. Yvonne & Melissa are learning the song. Meanwhile, Sunny & Bizzy finally find the clue box. They make their way to the Candombe Detour.

Ricky & Cesar complete the Murga Detour. They can proceed to the Pit Stop: Playa Malvín. As they pass the other teams working on the drum routine, Angie & Danny complete the Candombe Detour. They can proceed to the Pit Stop too. Meanwhile, Amber is struggling with the drum routine. Vinny has learned it, and he’s frustrated Amber can’t get it. Amber says she has no rhythm, and they wonder if they should switch Detours.

Ricky & Cesar and Angie & Danny race to the Pit Stop, but which team will claim first place? Ricky & Cesar arrive at the mat first, and Phil gives them the good news. Ricky & Cesar are Team #1! They have won Expedia OneKeyCash points for a trip to Paris, France. While they’re still on the mat, Angie & Danny join them as Team #2.

Yvonne & Melissa attempt the song, but they are cut off midway and told to try again. Amber & Vinny finally complete the drum routine and can make their way to the Pit Stop. Juan & Shane and Rod & Leticia complete the Candombe Detour too. These three teams can proceed to the Pit Stop too. Vinny & Amber bicker again as they try to find their parked car.

Race to a safe finish

Yvonne & Melissa are still struggling with the Murga Detour as Sunny & Bizzy arrive. They get started on the Candombe Detour. Yvonne & Melissa are repeatedly told their performance is no good. However, they finally complete it after their eighth attempt. Sunny & Bizzy also quickly complete the drum routine successfully, but can they catch up?

Juan & Shane drove the wrong way, allowing Rod & Leticia to pass them and greet Phil as Team #3. Amber & Vinny join them on the mat as Team #4. While driving, Juan & Shane and Yvonne & Melissa see each other. It’s a footrace to the Pit Stop, and it’s Yvonne & Melissa who land on the mat as Team #5. Juan & Shane join them as Team #6.

Sunny & Bizzy later arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the bad news. Sunny & Bizzy are eliminated from the race. They say they feel rejuvenated and got what they needed out of the race.
