Franklin Tennessee police continue to investigate the death of American Idol alum Mandisa

The Franklin, Tennessee police department offered an update on the unexpected death of American Idol alum Mandisa.

They said in a statement on Monday (April 22) that the department is “continuing to investigate the death of a woman found inside a Beamon Dr. residence last Thursday evening.” The statement continued, “Over the weekend, a medical examiner identified the deceased individual as Mandisa Hundley, 47.” However, although the investigation continues, the statement stressed, “At this time, there is no indication the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity.” The statement concluded, “The Franklin Police Department sends its condolences to Hundley’s family, friends, and fans.”

Mandisa, who competed on American Idol in 2006 and left in 9th place was found dead in her Franklin, Tennessee home on April 18.

An announcement on Mandisa’s official social media pages confirmed her death: “We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased,” the statement posted on April 19 read. “At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.” The statement ended, “Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world.”

American Idol will air a musical tribute April 29

American Idol announced on a recent broadcast that they plan to air a musical tribute. “Before we go to break, we wanted to take a moment to honor a dear member of the ‘Idol’ family who we sadly lost this week, Mandisa,” host Ryan Seacrest said during the Sunday April 21 episode. “She was an inspiration during her time here on the show and beyond,” he added, saying the show will “celebrate her next week with a very special musical tribute.” Ryan continued, “Our hearts go out to her family and those, like us, who call her a friend.” The tribute will air on the Monday, April 29 episode, according to ABC News.

Livestreamed memorial service set at baptist church in Brentwood, Tennessee

Additionally, according to her socials, a memorial service is scheduled to take place at the Brentwood Baptist church in Brentwood, Tennessee on Saturday April 27. Visitation is from 9-10:30 am. A service will take place at 11 am. For those who can’t attend in person, the memorial will be streamed at brentwoodbabtist.com/mandisa

Mandisa released her first of six albums in 2007, and won a Grammy Award for best contemporary Christian music album in 2014 for her album Overcomer.
