Watch the first 10 minutes of the American Idol premiere, which airs Sunday night (March 3) on ABC at 8 pm ET/PT. The clip kicks off with beauty shots of AMERICA as hopefuls write down their musical dreams and aspirations. One singer is a strawberry farmer. Another is auditioning for his brothers. Yet another wants to be a role model for her sisters. The hopefuls gather on a dark hilltop. It turns out the vessel for their dreams are lanterns which they light and set free into the night.
“This season watch dreams take flight!” says host Ryan Seacrest. “This is the place where superstars are born. BECAUSE THIS IS AMERICAN IDOL.”
Additionally, judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan meet their first hopeful of the season. Walker Burroughs is a 20 year old musician from Birmingham, Alabama, currently a student at Belmont University.
The red headed singer is actually a pretty impressive musician, and destined to be a nerdy favorite, I believe. After performing “Love Like This” by Ben Rector, Katy compares him to another nerdy but musically talented musician, Ben Folds.
After Walker receives his unanimous Golden Ticket, there’s a preview of the very last audition of the night. Nick Townsend’s backstory will have some of y’all grabbing for your tissues.
