Titled, American Idol: A New Journey Begins, the show featured several clips of hopefuls auditioning for the judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
I put together a short montage of singers. Enjoy it before TPTB block it. Heh.
A couple of fun tidbits from the special:
- The judges discuss returning season 16 contestants. Katy said, “There are quite a few people that we said no to…that actually took our advice and came back. More than half of them got through.
- The special confirms that season 16 standouts Laine Hardy and Alyssa Raghu auditioned and got through.
- Also, season 16 runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Top 14 contestant Dennis Lorenzo accompanied friends to the judges auditions. About how his life has changed since the competition, Dennis says, “It’s incredibly different. American Idol has definitely changed my life for the better. Dennis’ friend is his babysitter!
- The format of the show had host Ryan Seacrest asking the panel questions. Lots of fluff, but enough spoilery bits in between made it worth the watch.
Dennis’ babysitter:
The new season of American Idol premieres on ABC Sunday March 3 at 8 pm.
