The Voice 23 Knockouts begin on Monday (April 17). But NBC has leaded a performance ahead of the episode. Watch Cait Martin perform Whitney Houston’s “All The Man That I Need” and Kala Banham sing The Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” for a spot on Team Kelly Clarkson.

Cait’s version of the Whitney Houston classic is both sweet and bold, as she eventually explodes on the last chorus. Kala’s take on “Iris,” is tender and powerful, as she puts her on spin on the song.

Chance tries hard not to curse

Blake Shelton heard “a lot of sharp notes” in Cait’s performance. He wonders if it’s nerves. On the other hand, “Kala had a very passionate performance. A lot of emotion in there and a lot of dynamics.” He’d pick Kala. Her performance wasn’t perfect either, but did more to make the song hers than Cait’s straight up Whitney cover.

Niall Horan is impressed that Cait took on a Whitney song. “You absolutely smashed it,” he says. The coach compliments Kala’s “storytelling ability” calling it “just insane.” He would also lean toward choosing Kala.

Chance the Rapper mentions that he’s been trying to get her on hs team “this whole show.” But he feels that Cait “just smashed” her performance, adding “spot on Whitney!” He’s so impressed he’s “trying hard not to curse.” He says, “You took that round by the throat. It’s Cait all the way.”

Kelly compares both singers to “ninjas”

“You’re like two different Ninjas,” says Kelly. “One of you just right in the face, knocked them out. And one of you sneakily from afar was like a sniper.” She thought Cait “killed it,” adding “not many people could have done what you just did.” She calls Kala “one of my favorite storytellers I’ve ever worked with. You gave me goosebumps. You made me tear up–you don’t deserve to go home.”

Find out which singer Kelly chooses, and if the loser is stolen by another coach, when The Voice Knockouts begin on NBC Monday April 17 at 8 pm ET/PT.
