Lauren Spencer-Smith didn’t win the People’s Choice Award for Best New Artist. But she DID get to perform her hit single “Fingers Crossed” on stage! (People’s Choice Awards Winners List)

The American Idol season 18 alum didn’t make it out of the semi-finals during that very weird COVID-19 affected season in 2020. Lauren, who hails from Canada, had to perform on a makeshift stage in front of iPhone cameras miles and miles away from Los Angeles. Who knows how her Idol trajectory would have turned out if it had been a normal season.

But no matter. when Lauren released the song early last year, it No. 1 on the overall iTunes chart in the US and No. 2 on the global chart in less than 24 hours. That, after a preview of the song, written by Francisca Hall, Jakke Erixson and Lauren blew up on Tik Tok. It quickly garnered millions of streams on Spotify. The song’s overnight success led to a record deal with Island Records/UMG.

The singer has since released the singles “Flowers,” “Narcissist” and “Single on the 25th.” The singer is set to appear next on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2023 singing “Flowers” and “Fingers Crossed” at Disneyland Resort.
