Lauren Spencer-Smith, on the back of her viral, massive hit “Fingers Crossed” has finalized a label partnership with Island Records and Republic Records.

After releasing a snippet of “Fingers Crossed” on social media in November, the song, written by Francisca Hall, Jakke Erixson and Lauren, went immediately viral for for the 18-year-old American Idol 2020 alum and Vancouver Island native. The initial snippet now has over 20 million views on TikTok, while the full single, “Fingers Crossed,” released in January, has peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Lauren met with a lot of labels”

Lauren’t manager, David Ehrich helped structure the partnership, and he tells Billboard magazine, “Lauren met with a lot of labels, and it is great to see that the music business is in such good shape, with such talented people everywhere,” he said. “At the end of the day Lauren really connected with Lucian, Monte, Avery, Imran and Justin, who shared our vision. Allowing Lauren to maintain some independence while at the same time having the firepower, talent and brains that Island and Republic can bring felt like a winning combination, and we are excited for the future.”

“I’m writing about love,” Lauren told Nagaimo News Now last year.  “I’m writing about boys or school or how I was picked on in school or if people didn’t believe in me.”

Lauren described the circumstances around penning “Fingers Crossed” to Billboard magazine, ““For a while, I think I was in an ‘I’m heartbroken, nobody loves me, I hate myself’ mindset while writing songs. But for this one, I met somebody new that was raising my standards and teaching me how I should be treated,” she explained.

Lauren is currently working on her debut project

“I went into my session feeling angry and wanted to write a heartbreak song. We came up with the ‘Fingers Crossed’ idea, and I think the song speaks for itself. It has that angsty emotion. It’s not just, ‘Oh, you’re going to cry in your bedroom.’ It’s, ‘I’m mad at this person, I’m angry, I could say sorry but I’m not.’”

Lauren is currently working on her debut project for Island and Republic.
