Watch For American Idol 2020 Oscar Day Preview, Contestant Video

Sunday February 9 is OSCAR DAY on ABC. And as part of the big event, there will be a couple of American Idol related promos, including a 30 minute special, and a performance from American Idol contestants.

American Idol Where Stars Are Born Special

FIRST tune in at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT on ABC for a 30 minute special “Where The Stars Are Born.” If it’s like previous American Idol Oscar Day specials, the show will feature judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan plus host Ryan Seacrest and mentor Bobby Bones talking up this seasons talent. We’ll also get a few glimpses of upcoming auditions from around the country.  American Idol eventually uploaded last year’s special to the show’s Youtube channel, so watch for that!

Additionally, American Idol’s reigning winner, Laine Hardy announced on Twitter that his post-show journey will be featured on the show. Maybe it’s clips from the digital-docu series he filmed last summer? Or, hopefully, American Idol followed the roots/rock/country singer into the studio to capture him recording new music! “Y’all may see a familiar face on TV this Sunday!” Laine wrote on Twitter. “See what a day in my life is like on the new special airing this Sunday on @ABCNetwork! #americanidol.”

Watch for American Idol 2020 Music Video Featuring Contestants Singing Tiny Dancer During Oscar Telecast

But that’s not all as far as American Idol goodness on Oscar day is concerned. Last year, a music video featuring American Idol hopefuls singing Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” aired during the Oscar telecast. It was pretty corny, but fun at the same time. I’M SORRY I LOVE ME SOME CHEESY GROUP NUMBERS I WON’T APOLOGIZE!

Welp, it’s all happening again this year. The group will sing Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” on a bus, with Ryan Seacrest at the wheel. It looks to be a homage to that iconic tour bus scene from the movie Almost Famous.

Idol Judge Katy Perry wrote on social media: “We all know @ryanseacrest has a thousand jobs. Did you know bus driver was one of them? Keep an eye out for the full @americanidol performance during the Oscars tomorrow to see Seacrest at work + a sneak peek of the season 3 talent.”

The 92nd Academy Awards air on ABC live coast to coast beginning at 8 pm ET. American Idol 2020 premieres February 16 at 8 pm ET/PT on ABC.
