It was a The Voice reunion on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday (Ded 20) as Brynn Cartelli dropped by the afternoon talk show to perform her new holiday single, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
Kelly wondered why she picked that particular Christmas song, “I was thinking of the song I love singing the most. This is a song that’s going to be out for a long time. Every year I want to revisit it as a song I love to sing, and love to play.”
“I know I’m such a mom,” gushed coach Kelly Clarkson, “But I’m just so blown away by you. You’re so gifted. You’re such a talented writer. You have great instincts with songs and where you take them. You are like a unicorn, getting to work with you first on The Voice.”
Brynn won The Voice season 14 as a member of Kelly’s first ever team as coach. After she was crowned champ, Kelly’s husband signed Brynn to his management company. She also signed a record deal with Kelly’s label, Atlantic records. Subsequently, Brynn toured with her coach in 2018 and will surely appear at some point at Kelly’s upcoming Las Vegas residency.
After Brynn’s beautiful performance, for which she accompanied herself on piano, Kelly took the stage, tissue in hand. “My makeup artist hates me, y’all,” Kelly said, referring to how easily she is moved to tears. “That was maybe my favorite version [of the song],” Kelly confessed.
