The Voice Winner Brynn Cartelli Signs Deal With Atlantic Records

The Voice winner Brynn Cartelli has signed a deal with Atlantic records. The 15 year old Longmeadow, Mass. native revealed the news on her Instagram account.

“Cheers to the next chapter,” Brynn wrote on Instagram. “Let’s do this thing @atlanticrecords thank you for making me feel safe and at home with your team. To say I am grateful would be an understatement. Big things coming. Thank you thank you.”

Brynn won season 14 of The Voice last spring as a member of Team Kelly Clarkson. Since then, Kelly has literally taken over the singer’s career. Brynn signed a management deal with Kelly’s husband, Brandon Blackstock shortly after the season ended.  She joined Kelly’s Meaning of Life tour, set to kick off next year, as an opener.  And now, the young singer has signed a deal with Kelly’s record label, Atlantic.

Typically, the winner of The Voice is compelled to sign a deal with Republic Records. However, The Voice winners so far have a negative track record with the label. Winners from the early seasons were mostly given the opportunity to release albums, even if they flopped after little to no promotion. Javier Colon (S1), Tessanne Chin (S5), Sawyer Fredericks (S8) released albums with Republic, only to be dropped after their initial release.

Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope had early success with Big Machine Label group (label head Scott Borchetta had first dibs on the country winners. The label at least put effort into promoting the artists they signed). She parted ways with the label after her second release, an EP Summer in 2016.

Season 13 winner, Khloe Kohanski, is still working on new music. Whether she eventually releases music on Republic remains to be seen.  Only Jordan Smith (S9) and Danielle Bradbery (S4) remain with Republic or one of its affiliates. The remaining winners eventually parted ways with the label without releasing an album.

Long story short–if Bryan had any hope for a career in pop music, she needed to ditch that Republic Records contract. Now she’s free to pursue her career with a label that will actually be willing to promote her. Congratulations Brynn!

The rumors that Brynn was about to sign with Atlantic had been swirling for months. And with Brynn set to premiere a new single “Last Night’s Mascara” on Tuesday’s The Voice finale, it seemed a record label announcement would be forthcoming.
