The new song, “Counterfeit,” from The Voice 8 runner-up, Meghan Linsey, is out now. Although the powerhouse singer performed several country songs on the show as a member of Team Blake Shelton, and was one half of the country duet act, Steel Magnolia, Meghan has been looking to reinvent herself as a blues/soul artist.
Indeed, the first single off her upcoming EP Believer has a swampy soul sound, representative of her Louisiana roots, yet hasn’t completely lost that country twang.
Meghan tells Yahoo Music, “Counterfeit is about being authentic and expecting the best. I wrote this song with Tyler Cain and Julie Moriva. It’s a sassy anthem about being real and telling it like it is.”
The six song Believer EP was recorded in Nashville and produced by Tyler Cain, who also happens to be her boyfriend and has worked with artists such as Ashley Monroe and James Otto. Look for the EP when it comes out July 27 via Garth Brooks’s GhostTunes music service, followed by an iTunes release on July 31.
The Voice returns to NBC for season 9 on Sept. 21.
