Matt McAndrew, The Voice 7 runner-up, landed a record deal after the season ended last December, with Republic Records. He’s been touring and recording ever since. It’s fitting that he would debut his very first single, “Counting on Love,” at the place where it all began. The singer returned to The Voice stage as the Top 8 sang for America’s votes. Not too long ago, Matt was just like them, singing for the chance to advance to the next week.
And now he’s back, singing the energetic “Counting On Love.” If I’m being honest, I don’t love the new tune the way I do his finale single, “Wasted Love.” Matt is a left of center kind of guy. He needs material that allows him to perform in all his quirky, offbeat glory. “Counting on Love” is too middle of the road for the singer. Hopefully, some of Matt’s originals make it onto his forthcoming album. He comes from an interesting point of view, and I want to hear it!
Nevertheless, I’m rooting for Matt to succeed. He’s one of my favorite The Voice contestants ever. Check out his live performance below. Click the links to download the song.
