Jordan Smith singing Climb Every Mountain. He’s really going for the big, bombastic, emotional finish, isn’t he? Go big or go home. As if he will be in any case, at this point. Mary Did You Know is the tender counterpoint. Adam should just step back and allow him to sing God Only Knows solo. Dude, at least give him all the falsettos.
Barrett Baber playing it a little safe this week with a Thomas Rhett tune, instead of a pop/gender song flip. That’s cute. He thinks he can win!
Young Emily Ann Roberts has the most interesting song choices tonight. She goes all secular with a rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas.” She’s a little young to be singing “Burning House,” from the buzzy country artist, Cam. But she’s got a real opportunity here to shine. Emily is young, but she does have the ability to bring emotional resonance to her performances. I’m just gonna pretend “Island in the Streams” isn’t happening.
Jeffery Austin will slay on both Slay and O Holy Night. Throw the guy a bone and allow him to close the show! He’s not winning in any case. Keeping fingers crossed that “Leather and Lace” isn’t a trainwreck (through no fault of Jeffery, of course). ETA: His song choice is a little more daring than I first suspected considered I assumed he was singing the Rihanna tune. I would not have expected Jeffery to pick a country song.
