Lea Michele is set to make her first public appearance since the death of her boyfriend and co-star, Cory Monteith, at the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night.
According to People magazine, Lea and the entire cast will be in attendance for a planned tribute to Cory. Also, Glee, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer and several other cast members are up for awards. Darren Criss is set to co-host with Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars.
UPDATE: Chris Colfer tweeted this morning that he would NOT be attending the awards. It would have been a tight squeeze making it to the awards after his book signing and web chat.
Individual cast members are confirming their attendance on twitter. Amber Riley (Mercedes) tweeted, “Mani/Pedi and shopping. Girly kind of day! Getting ready for the Teen Choice Awards tomorrow” And Naya Rivera posted “Nails doll for #TeenChoice awards!”
And somebody who appears to be a member of the Teen Choice staff tweeted, with a photo, “Freaking out because I’m sitting in lea Michele’s seat for teen choice awards pic.twitter.com/E3x4zoA52V”
The Teen Choice Awards air on FOX at 8 pm. I’ll be live blogging them right here.
Chris Colfer has a webchat scheduled for Sunday at 4 pm PT to answer questions about his new book, The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns (Watch it HERE.) But he should have plenty of time to get to the show after it’s finished.
Speaking of Chris, when Parade magazine asked him what he hopes fans remember most about his friend, Cory Monteith, Chris said,
“I hope fans remember just his spirit. He was a really great, great human being, and he was a great, great person. I had so much respect for him, will always have so much respect for him, so I hope that’s what people remember.”
Darren Criss and Lucy Hale were interviewed by Ryan Seacrest on his radio show last week. On the passing of Cory Monteith, and how the show will handle Finn’s death he said,
“I don’t know much about it beyond what’s in the media. I’m just as curious as everybody else. But I’d imagine it’ll be hard for everybody, including the audience. But I think it’s a necessary, nice step for everybody … Absolutely [it will be therapeutic] and I hope by end of it, the light that Cory left behind will be displayed in its best.”
A tribute to Cory, with the entire cast in attendance, has the potential to be incredibly moving. So, get out those handkerchiefs, people.
