Survivor Season 37 David vs Goliath Week 8 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor: David vs. Goliath airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

The episode begins with the castaways returning to camp after tribal council. Angelina calls tribal a “doozy,” and she didn’t expect Elizabeth to throw her under the bus. Angelina admits in a confessional that she was trying to manage the jury by telling Elizabeth the truth, but she comes up with a story to her alliance. She claims Elizabeth was crying and demanding a name, and Angelina tells her alliance that she told her as a moment of weakness. However, we see confessionals from Dan, Alec, and Alison. None of them believe Angelina. They are aware she was trying to get Elizabeth’s vote if she did make it to the Final Tribal Council. Dan says he’ll take out Angelina as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

The next morning, Christian and Mike discuss their new alliance. The alliance members are the two of them, Gabby, Nick, Alison, and Alec. Half are Goliaths; half are Davids. Mike tells Christian he’s worried about Gabby and if she’s even committed to this alliance. Christian admits he’s bothered by Mike’s statement about Gabby in a confessional. He says it was an interesting thing for him to say. Meanwhile, Davie and Nick stumble upon a clue on the ground as they are walking in the forest. Carl joins them, and Nick finds the power as Davie is distracting the Goliaths. Nick learns the power allows him to steal a vote at an upcoming tribal council. Nick and Carl celebrate this find before Carl reveals to Nick he has his own power (he can nullify an Idol). Davie comments in a confessional how happy he is that his alliance has all these powers (Davie has a hidden immunity idol himself). Nick calls this vote steal advantage his slingshot to take out the Goliaths.

It’s time for the reward challenge. They will be divided into teams (Gabby and Mike were the two captains picking team members). Gabby, Christian, Alison, John, Alec, and Nick are on one team as Mike, Carl, Kara, Davie, Dan, and Angelina are on another team. They must hold eight sand bags over their heads. The team to last the longest without dropping all the bags will win a pizza reward. The challenge begins with Kara and Mike holding two bags for their teams. As the challenge progresses, a team member must drop out and distribute the bags to another team member. Gabby and Angelina are the first two to step off, and they are soon followed by Christian and Carl. The challenge becomes more difficult as they are all struggling holding onto their bags. Dan is holding three bags in one hand, but it proves to be a bad decision as Dan accidentally drops the bags. Gabby, Christian, Alison, John, Alec, and Nick win reward. Before the commercial break, we hear a confessional from Angelina. She says Dan has become too cocky, and she can’t wait for it to come back and bite him.

As the castaways return to camp after the reward challenge, Mike is concerned whether or not he can trust this new alliance that includes three Goliaths and three Davids. He doesn’t want the Goliaths to lose a number and have all the Davids pick off the remaining Goliaths one after another. In addition, he feels threatened by Christian and doesn’t want to regret not voting him out down the line. Mike shares his worries with Alec, but Alec says in a confessional that he’s unsure whether it would be best for his game to remain “Goliath strong.” Later, all the Goliaths assemble and discuss how Christian needs to be voted out. They all agree, but Angelina is peeved how she had the same idea last time, yet they didn’t listen to her then. She says in her confessional that it’s annoying how they suddenly agree to this plan once a man suggests it.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s an endurance challenge that requires them to balance on a narrow perch while holding a buoy between two handles. If they step off their perch or drop their buoy, then they are eliminated from the challenge. The challenge begins, and Kara is the first one eliminated. Christian, Alison, Davie, John, Gabby, and Carl all drop one after another. Alec is the next one out, leaving four people in the challenge. Mike is the next one to drop, and he’s followed by Nick. Angelina and Dan are the last two remaining. Both are looking solid, but Angelina’s buoy slips through her handles. Dan wins immunity!

The castaways return to camp after the challenge. The Goliaths lie to the Davids and tell them that they are voting out Angelina tonight. However, the Goliath’s actual plan is to vote out Christian. As Angelina shares her worries with Dan about her name being written down by the Davids, Dan gets frustrated. He now wants Angelina out, and he tells Alec that they should vote her out tonight. Alec doesn’t want to hurt his relationship with Nick, so Alec tells Nick that Christian is the actual target. Afterwards, Nick tells Christian that he’s the target. They are trying to come up with a plan for tonight. Christian says he has no hidden immunity idol or advantage. Later, Nick asks Davie if they should use the vote steal advantage to save Christian tonight. Davie also has a hidden immunity idol, but he hasn’t told anyone about this. He’s torn what to do tonight, as is Nick. Nick doesn’t believe anyone is targeting him, but he’s worried using an advantage to save Christian will put a target on his back.

It’s time for tribal council. Jeff asks Angelina the reaction after the last tribal council, and she says she hopes the alliance will stay together. Nick says if there is a Goliath alliance, then they could keep Angelina whether they like her or not simply due to the numbers. Davie says Elizabeth exposed some cracks in the alliance and he is hopeful, but Carl is doubtful. He points out the Goliaths have the numbers over the Davids. John adds that everyone gets what you give. Nick says it has to be a give and take relationship, and he says he’s ready to work with people here for the rest of the game. Jeff asks John his thoughts about the vote, and John says he’s on board with voting out threats. Christian is worried about being too much of a threat. He says they all need to manage their threat potential, and he says he didn’t do a good job with that. He just hopes the bonds he built with the swapped tribes will help him out. Angelina says that due to Christian’s inroads with the Goliaths and Davids, that makes him a big target. Christian calls out Angelina for painting an even bigger target on his back by saying that. Angelina says there will be some happy people and some unhappy people at camp tonight regardless how the vote falls. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Davie plays a hidden immunity idol for Christian. Then Dan plays an idol for Angelina.
