Sofia Vergara is poised to fill one of the 2 seats that are open on America’s Got Talent, reports TMZ.
TMZ sources say that Sofia met with ‘AGT’ brass Wednesday for 2 hours. Sofia reportedly had a big audience over at NBC, beginning with the Entertainment chief, Paul Telegdy. There were also members of Fremantle present, which produces AGT.
TMZ sources stay that although AGT was a topic of conversation, the bosses were meeting with Sofia on a variety of possible projects, including dramas and a possible Spanish language project. (NBC owns Telemundo.)
NBC and Fremantle are looking to fill two seats on the America’ Got Talent judges panel after Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough were not invited back by Simon Cowell and the rest of the production team, amid controversy. Shortly after the news dropped, reports surfaced that Gabrielle was fired from the show after she complained that AGT had a toxic culture. AGT brass insisted that executive producer Simon Cowell routinely rotates judges, so nothing was amiss. The controversy came to a head when reports surfaced that Gabrielle was considering her legal options. Eventually, Gabrielle had a long meeting with NBC bosses, after which the network opened an official inquiry.
Meanwhile, Sofia is currently starring in the ABC comedy, Modern Family, which is in its last season. TMZ sources say NBC wants to work with the actress, whom they consider a “global star” and an “extremely versatile entertainer.”
America’s Got Talent: The Champions, a 6 week all-star installment of the series, premieres in January, featuring Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Alesha Dixon.
