Ani DiFranco – iTunes Originals – This week’s extremely late New Music post features David Cook’s favorite queer artist, Ani DiFranco. What a coincidence, David mentions her in an interview, the week she releases an iTunes exclusive album! The iTunes album is a greatest hits of sorts, featuring songs from throughout her career, some of them recorded live just for iTunes. The release also features interviews that introduce each track. I listened to Ani through the 9o’s, but stopped following her music, and God knows why, because her recent stuff is really good! I’ve got a track from the album, “32 Flavors”, that appeared on her 1995 album Not a Pretty Girl. It’s one of my favorites iTunes
Vampire Weekend – The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance – Thanks to the peeps who turned me on to Vampire Weekend. Actually, I’d heard of them before, but a shoutout on the blog reminded me to check them out a little more carefully. I like! They remind me a little of my beloved English Beat from back in the day. They’re new single, available on iTunes, comes in two flavors, one with strings and the other a remix with synthesizers. I like both! Listen to the former below, and watch them perform the song (with strings in tow) on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, after the jump. iTunes

The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name – My new favorite song is not new. “That’s Not My Name” is from the album, We Started Nothing. The first single, “Shut Up and Let Me Go”, has been playing on my iPod for awhile now. The British duo concocts music that’s a cool mixture of techno, alternative and pop. I love when the guitars kick in at the end of the song. And I love to sing along in my car, even though it isn’t true. I mean, it is my name. Oh well. Heh. Listen below! iTunes
