More Glee Stars Share Thoughts on the Death of Cory Monteith

It’s been 5 days since Glee star, Cory Monteith, died from a toxic mixture of heroin and alcohol and today, more of his Glee family are stepping forward to pay their respects via twitter.

Last night, Jane Lynch shared her feelings about Cory’s passing on the Tonight Show.  And today,  Amber Riley, who played the sassy singer, Mercedes Jones, on the musical dramedy, tweeted a message to her fans.

Yesterday I got to sit with my Glee family and remember a man I considered a brother and friend. With a very heavy heart, RIP Cory Monteith  Continued prayer for his family and Lea. Sendings hugs to all you gleeks.

Chord Overstreet, who played in the Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrities Softball game at Citi Field in New York over the weekend, dedicated a home run in Cory’s memory. But today, he tweeted to his fans.

Naya Rivera (Santana) released a statement on Sunday, but today she also thanks her fans.

And Dianna Agron, who shared a major storyline in season 1 with Cory as his pregnant girlfriend (the baby wasn’t his!) released a statement:

“I have never lost a friend. In this difficult time, I am leaning on all of the wonderful memories we shared with Cory, how many ways he was able to make us smile,” said Agron, who as mean-girl cheerleader Quinn was Monteith’s first love interest on the Fox musical. “Glee was a gift to all of us. It gave us a family in this industry.”

“We really cut our teeth and grew up on this show. In playing underdogs, we learned that we had dug into the hearts of our viewers and that we could stay there,” she said. “Cory is so deserving of that place in everyone’s hearts. He was one of the most generous and kind people that I have ever met. He had a smart, curious mind, he was an enormous talent. He was loving to not only me but my family.”

“My heart goes out to his family, to Lea, to everyone that is struggling with the loss of our friend,” the always insightful actress went on to say. “We will miss you Cory. We will always carry a piece of you with us.”

Damian McGinty, a season 1 also shared screen time with Cory when the Glee Project Season 1 winner joined the cast in Season 3. The very first scene he shot as an actor was with Cory. In it, Finn takes Damian’s character, Rory, an Irish exchange student, under his wing. Here, Damian shares his thoughts about Cory’s passing with Extra TV.

Cory’s real life love, his fellow Glee star, Lea Michele was reportedly with his family when his body was cremated in Vancouver on Tuesday. She also participated in a private viewing with the immediate family. TMZ is reporting that Lea is planning Cory’s memorial and other matters for the family. As an young woman who had been in show business all her life, she did her best to protect Cory from people who did not have his best interests at heart:

Sources connected with both Cory and Lea tell TMZ … Lea swooped in when Cory died and immediately took over planning his memorial and other matters connected with his death. We’re told Cory’s mom is not involved at all in the planning — it’s all Lea.

Everyone agrees … Lea always had Cory’s back and tried protecting him as much as she could, especially when it came to his substance abuse. We’re told Cory — who was sweet but naive — got banged around in Hollywood by what one relative called “a zoo of piranhas” and when Lea became his girlfriend she fiercely protected him.
