Lee DeWyze Releases “Oil and Water” Album – Full Stream Audio

Lee DeWyze - Oil & Water Cover-feat

Lee DeWyze describes his 3rd post-Idol album, Oil and Water, a “a little more personal than the others.”

The set, released Friday (2/13), is available at iTunes and Amazon now.

“I think that the more albums I make, the more I’m getting centered and focused on what I’m about – which is lyrics and melody,” the American Idol season 9 winner told People magazine.

“Something that doesn’t get talked about as much is the between stuff,” he said about his life as an artist. “An artist puts out a record and then they perform, they tour for a year or so, and then another album comes about, but going on tour isn’t just going on tour: There’s a lot more to it.”

Lee worked on the album in his studio, with the help of an engineer. At one point, it didn’t feel quite “right.” Nearly starting from scratch, he worked through all of the material he had and found the right song, “Stone.”

“‘Stone’ was the first one that I really knew was going on the album, and it definitely is one of the more emotion-filled, deeper songs on the record,” he said. “[It tells] a story.”

Lee appeared on the final farewell season of Idol, helping producers audition hopefuls at the San Francisco cattle call and lending support to contestants as they waited to perform in front of the judges. But will the singer return for the finale on April 7?

“You’ll see me at the finale. Maybe, you might. I don’t know,” Lee told people. “If they asked me to come back and perform, I would definitely be there.”

Currently Lee is focused on the release of his album and his current tour.

“I didn’t set out to make a specific kind of album, it was just ‘These are the songs I wanted to write and these are the things I wanted to say,'” he said. “And the end result was right where I wanted it.”
